It’s less than a week away. Watch out, here comes FAWM! What is FAWM, you ask? Simply put, it’s February Album Writing Month. This event, which takes place each February, gathers songwriters from around the world to commit to writing 14 songs in 28 days. Although writing 14 songs is the goal, there are no checks in place and every song written is considered a win. It’s an event that encourages creativity and is more about the camaraderie and experience than the number and quality of songs produced.
Last year was my first experience with FAWM. I had just written my first song, I Will Fly, and someone on a forum mentioned checking it out. So I did. I signed up, and it ended up launching my songwriting career. I came out of FAWM with 6 songs. Some were good. Some weren’t. I even collaborated with other lyricists and musicians on two of them. Here is last year’s playlist.
This year I’ve decided that I want to primarily focus on writing more music for kids. The goal would be to end up with enough songs to put together a full album that I can get professionally recorded and also to have enough songs to start doing shows specifically with kids in mind.
The month is sure to bring long nights, and little sleep, but it is so worth it in the end. I learned so much last year and I’m really excited to do it all over again.
